Karen Gentilman, LCSW

I’m a license clinical social worker in Idaho (LCSW-36120). I have 30+ years of experience. I am a trauma-informed therapist. I am a Certified Brain Injury Specialist (CBIS) and a Certified EMDR therapist (EMDRIA). I am a HeartMath® Certified Practitioner. I also have certifications in trauma (CCTP-2/Certified Clinical Trauma Professional-Level 2), Certificate for Neuropsychotherapy (NPT-C), and telemental health (CTMH/Clinical Telemental Health Provider).

History

I named my counseling practice Illumination Counseling Service (ICS) because I feel it is about shining a light onto whatever might be holding us back or blocking us, whether it is our fears, traumas, or secrets because that is how the healing starts. The phoenix on my logo represents coming out of the ashes and moving away from an older version of self into a renewed and better version of ourselves. When we shine a light, we can heal and become what we are meant to be and like the phoenix, we can rise from the ashes.

Education

I have my Master’s degree in social work and I’m a licensed clinical social worker. I received my Master’s Degree in 1992 from California University of Long Beach. I have over 20 years working with individuals with different neurological conditions, chronic illnesses, and different medical conditions, including brain injury, strokes, and spinal cord injuries. As I moved through my own journey I have learned that self-compassion and resiliency can be great tools in embracing our gifts and creating a meaningful life.
